What Hail Damage Actually Looks Like
Hail damage is frequently invisible from the ground and still takes years off a roof's remaining life. These are the signs a homeowner can check for without getting on the roof.
Bruised or Cracked Shingles
Hail strikes soften the mat under the granules. The bruise is easy to feel and hard to see, and it keeps aging after the storm has passed.
Granules in Gutters
Granule piles in gutters and at downspout outlets mean the shingle surface is shedding the layer that protects it from UV.
Dented Soft Metals
Vents, gutters, gutter aprons, and flashing dent before shingles show damage. They are often the clearest record that hail actually fell here.
Dinged Siding & Window Wraps
Impact marks on siding, wraps, and window trim help establish storm direction and severity across the whole elevation.
Why the Xactimate Advantage Matters
A hail claim is settled on paperwork as much as on roofing. When the estimate is written in the carrier's own system, the conversation starts from numbers that already match.
The Same Software the Carrier Uses
Xactimate is the estimating platform most insurance carriers price claims in. We own it and write our estimates in it, so our scope and the adjuster's scope speak the same language line for line.
Fewer Rounds of Back-and-Forth
When the line items, measurements, and pricing come across in the format the carrier already works in, there is less to dispute and less time spent rewriting paperwork.
Two In-House Claims Specialists
Most roofers outsource claim estimates to a third party. Ours are written and handled by two specialists on our own team, so nothing about your file is being managed by a company you never hired.
The Claim Process, Start to Finish
Free Storm Inspection
We inspect the roof, soft metals, and elevations, and document what we find with photos and measurements. If there is no storm damage, the report says that.
We Write the Xactimate Estimate
Our claims specialists build the scope in Xactimate, using the same line items and pricing structure the carrier's adjuster works from.
You File the Claim
The homeowner files with their carrier. The documentation and estimate are yours to submit, and we can walk you through what is in them.
We Meet the Adjuster On Site
We are on the roof with the adjuster during the inspection so the damage we documented is reviewed in person rather than debated over email.
The Approved Scope Gets Built
Once the scope is approved, our crews build it — supervised, to manufacturer specification, and backed by our 5-year workmanship warranty.
Timing Matters
Most Texas carriers set a deadline for filing after a storm event — often around a year, though the exact window varies by policy and should be confirmed with your own documents.
The practical takeaway is simple: get the roof looked at soon after a storm, even if nothing is leaking. Damage found long after the event is harder to tie to that storm, and it can be classified as ordinary wear instead.

Hail & Storm Claims — Frequently Asked Questions
Will filing a claim raise my rates?
That depends on your carrier and your policy. Weather-related claims are generally treated differently than at-fault claims, but rate decisions belong to the insurer, not to us. Your agent is the right person to ask before you file.
Do I have to pay a deductible?
Yes. If a claim is approved, the deductible stated in your policy is your responsibility, and it is illegal in Texas for a contractor to waive, absorb, or rebate it. We will tell you what the deductible means for your out-of-pocket cost before any work starts.
What if my claim gets denied?
Denials happen, and we cannot promise an outcome. If the denial appears to conflict with what we documented, you can request a re-inspection through your carrier, and we will share our photos and estimate to support that review. If the roof still needs work, we will quote it as a retail job.
How long does the work take?
Most residential storm repairs and replacements are a one- to two-day install once materials are on site. The longer part of the timeline is usually the claim itself and material lead times, not the roofing work.
How do I know if I even have damage?
Often you cannot tell from the ground — hail damage is frequently invisible from the driveway and still shortens the roof's remaining life. The reliable answer is an on-roof inspection with photos, which we provide at no cost and with no obligation.
